"A street artist has got to have a serious bone to pick to keep on working in front of shouting, gun-waving cops. Then again, I guess Alexandre Orion had a bit of an advantage when the police tried to nab him in a São Paulo street tunnel: He wasn’t painting city property, he was cleaning it. For over two weeks last year, the Brazilian artist selectively scrubbed soot from the tunnel until the white surface underneath stared through as a cemetery’s worth of skulls."

Footage of Anne Frank

"July 22 1941. The girl next door is getting married. Anne Frank is leaning out of the window of her house in Amsterdam to get a good look at the bride and groom. It is the only time Anne Frank has ever been captured on film. At the time of her wedding, the bride lived on the second floor at Merwedeplein 39. The Frank family lived at number 37, also on the second floor. The Anne Frank House can offer you this film footage thanks to the cooperation of the couple."youtube

"Butoh-inspired video dance.

To a great extent improvised for the camera or choreographed on the spot. This work is an exploration on how spontaneous movement can be momentarily organized to create a language that expresses and communicates, rather than just an indistinct "babble". It is a search around the principles of 'impermanence' and 'fixation', and also on the relationships between body, image, sound, light/darkness and costume.

Directed and performed by Carolina Diaz. Cinematography and sound by Simon McLennan.

elapsed time, one week of art works

"The Rinpa Eshidan core team is made up of Noiz-Davi, Daisuke Yamamoto, D.H.Rosen, Akari Sasai and XOLA . The group's main activities are performing in live-art events and creating videos of art in action. Instead of focusing on the finished project, we believe the process of creation itself is where art comes to life and our videos aim to engage our audience in that process." Rinpa Eshidan website
